Napoleone Buonaparte (1769 – 1821) was a Corsican general. He is considered a military genius. In 1799 the seized power in France by a coup d’état. By then he had started to spell his surname Bonaparte. Five years later he proclaimed himself emperor under the name Napoléon I. This title he kept until he was defeated in war 1815. What happened to him the last six years is the subject of What Napoléon I Bonaparte died from.
Napoleone was married twice. 1796 – 1809 he was married to
Marie Josèphe Rose Tascher de la Pagerie. Her he never managed to have any children with. From 1810 he was married to Maria Ludovica von Habsburg-Lothringen. With her he had a son who was named Napoleon Franz Joseph Karl. Napoleone had many mistresses too, I don't know how many. (He was often away from his wife longer than he could resist having sex.) One of them was Maria Łączyńska. With her he had the son Aleksander Józef. Since she was then married Walewska (feminine) he got the surname Walewski (masculine). Napoleone had at least one more child who was born outside marriage. It was Charles Léon (he had Léon as his surname) which he had with Eléonore Denuelle (1787 – 1868). He may have had more but these are the ones we know about.
