A large herbivore which lived on the plains of Africa during the Neogene.  In contrast with most members of its family it did not walk on its knuckles.  This animal family (Chalicotheriidae) does not exist today.  But horses, rhinos and tapirs are their closest living relatives.  This animal seems to have become extinct in connection with our ancestors learning to hunt large animals.  If so, it was simply too easy a prey.

En stor växtätare, som levde på Afrikas slätter under neogen.  Till skillnad från dom flesta medlemmar av sin familj, gick den inte på knogarna.  Djurfamiljen (Chalicotheriidae) finns inte kvar idag.  Men hästdjur, noshörningar och tapirer, är deras närmaste släktingar.  Djuret tycks ha dött ut i samband med, att våra förfäder lärde sej jaga stora djur.  Det var i så fall, helt enkelt ett för lätt byte.
