Chalicotherium

Ett stort, växtätande däggdjur, som levde på savanner i Asien. Det levde i slutet av paleogen, och under neogen. Liksom dom flesta medlemmar av sin familj, gick djuret på knogarna. Djurfamiljen (Chalicotheriidae) dog ut i förhistorisk tid. Dom närmaste släktingarna idag, är hästdjur, noshörningar och tapirer. Just det här släktet dog sannolikt ut, för att Asiens grässlätter blev för torra. Dom träd djuret levde av, törstade helt enkelt ihjäl.

A large, herbivorous mammal which lived on the savannahs of Asia. It lived at the end of the Palaeogen and during the Negone. Like most of the members of its family it walked on its knuckles. This animal family (Chalicotheriidae) died out in prehistoric times. The closest relatives today are horses, rhinos and tapirs. This particular genus probably died out because the plains of Asia become too dry. The trees the animal lived from simply thirsted to death.
