Did not Charles de Montholon confess that he murdered Napoléon?
I don’t think so. In 1994 someone claimed to have Charles’ written confession. Unfortunately, I don’t remember who that person was. Neither have I managed to find the passage again where I originally read it. The problem is what happened later. During the course of 2007 I repeatedly asked Ben Weider about such a confession. He eventually answered that he did not know about any and did not think there were. From this I draw the conclusion that Charles’ confession has been disproven. Either it has turned up that the confession was a forgery. Or someone has misinterpreted (over-interpreted?) what Charles in fact wrote.
