The game is largely about creating epic stories. There are no objectively good and evil but only conflicting goals between different people. (The rules were originally based on those for Eon.) On the other hand, the game does not start over from scratch every time you play it. Instead, the results of every run have consequences for all later ones.
It all takes place in 4170 or the following years. People wanting to contribute have been requested to avoid English. This language is dead since 1,600 years. Curiously, Japanese is completely fine. The explanation is that the Federation of Althea’s lingua franca (Nihon) is approximately to Japanese what Israeli is to Hebrew.
